Now she feels drained and afraid of publishing again because what if the next story doesn’t get boosted? Does it mean your writing has gotten worse? That the boosted stories were just pure luck?
As someone who has :
published over 600 pieces on Medium
reached millions of readers
is editing one of the largest publications on Medium
and has been nominating stories for Boosting for a year,
I don’t think these feelings ever go away.
A small dose of Imposter Syndrome stays with us as long as we take our work seriously.
And that’s not necessarily bad.
Being a little afraid and uncomfortable can sometimes push us to do our best work.
The truth about boosting on Medium is that not every single story you publish will get boosted, even if it’s a great story.
Just because a piece didn’t get boosted doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good or important story. And it doesn’t mean your efforts go to waste.
You can always rewrite and publish a different version of the piece in the future.
You can use it as pillar content in your email newsletter.
You can republish the story on other platforms.
What matters is that you enjoy the journey and are excited to keep showing up because writing is a never-ending journey full of ups and downs.
