Episode Summary:

Lesson 1: Treat it like a business

A lot of people say they want to earn money writing online, but they treat it like a casual side hobby instead of a real business.

If you want the best financial results, you need to show up like a business owner - set clear goals, stick to a schedule, track your numbers, and make decisions based on data, not moods.

Lesson 2: Solve painful, specific problems

People don’t pay for more ‘information’, they pay for solutions to problems and pain points that keep them up at night.

The more specific and urgent the problem your product or service solves, the easier it is to sell.

This applies to everything - courses, coaching, digital products, you name it.

Lesson 3: Collaboration beats competition

Some of our biggest jumps in audience growth didn’t come from paid ads or algorithms, but from collaborating with other creators.

Whether it’s newsletter recommendations, Substack lives, podcasting, guest-posting, or affiliate partnerships, collaborating with others is one of the best ways to get in front of a perfectly aligned audience.

Don’t see other creators in your niche as competitors, but see them as potential growth partners.

Lesson 4: Monetize the same skill in multiple ways

If you’ve mastered a skill, don’t just sell it in one way, but build multiple different offers around it.

We always turn one skill/solution into:

  • An online course

  • A group coaching offer

  • A 1:1 coaching or consulting offer

This way, you leverage the same expertise in different formats - and at different price points - serving different types of buyers.

Lesson 5: The quality of your customers = the quality of your business

It’s tempting to sell to everyone, but it’s smarter to focus on selling to the right people - those who value your work, respect your time, and are excited to work with you.

These are the clients who pay on time, give great testimonials, become repeat buyers, and are genuinely fun to work with.

Bonus Lesson: Take full responsibility for your business

When something flops - whether it’s a failed launch, a slow month, or an underperforming post - it’s easy to point fingers.

But if you want long-term success, own the outcome and ask:

What can I do differently next time?

That mindset shift is a game-changer if you want to build a successful business.
