Once again, great stuff! Very practical advice to follow. I'm very much a beginning writer, but I've been trying to learn as much about marketing myself as I am about writing. If you want to make money, it would appear that being knowledgeable about marketing is as important as anything.

The earlier you start with the business/marketing aspect of writing, the better!

I think it’s a case of the proverbial “chicken, and the egg”. But one thing is clear, someone with good knowledge of marketing can easily make money with properly-positioned ‘bad writing’ (use quotes to question who is the judge of what a bad writing is—especially one that someone paid for); while it’s very difficult for a ‘good writer’ to make any money with poor marketing skills 🤷‍♂️🙏

Exactly! Most writers have one of two mindsets: employees looking for “clients” (really employers) and artists who are all about the craft, and have no idea how to sell it.

Successful writers are entrepreneurs. ❤️

I don't agree, for most writers, the problem is a lack of writing skills.

Do you think the quality of their writing is what's holding most writers back from monetizing successfully?

Well, yes. I think that there are a lot of not-so-good writers that make good money because of their marketing skills, and I also think that that's not what the world is waiting for. It's no problem to be a not-so-good writer (whatever that may be), but be satisfied with writing as a hobby. I do too. No problem!
