Nice list here, your points on systems and simplicity are the underrated aspects of the biz that I think a lot of people tend to neglect (but I've found become more and more important the longer I do this).
So many timeless lessons here, but “keep going” and “treat it like a business” hit hardest. As someone helping investors build clarity and conviction in another noisy domain (equity markets), I relate deeply to the journey of showing up, simplifying, and staying consistent. Thanks for distilling 9 years into something this actionable and real.
that's solid advice. I have a question in regards to niche down.. everyone has different opinions some say don't niche down, some say niche down. I decided that I created One Percent Edge for people who want to redefine their impossible. My two "offers" is one is I create human band stories for fitness brands and the other "offer" business is I'm an online fitness & endurance coach helping people redefine their impossible with their health & fitness.
For the coaching should I niche even more: like creative business people? I think it's better to focus on one core problem: band aid solutions and all the BS the fitness industry promotes.
Treating it like business is very important to understand. Unless you do this, you won't be serious about it. I also liked the idea of breaking long posts into shorter notes. Thanks for valuable post! 😀
I thought this might be a dull listicle, but I was surprised. Now that I'm 34, I can relate to a lot of these, and there are still some more insights in here. Thanks for sharing this!
That's me, the ultimate consumer. I know this is my main problem. I have content created, I just need to take the leap. I got a lot out of this list of 30 and am printing some of them in large letters to post over my desk!
Great advice, I was chasing shiny objects and all over the place with different programs, platforms, and ad spend on affiliate products that just kept me busy all the time. I made a few sales, but the return on investment (ROI) wasn't there.
In terms of closing down all other social media platforms: I'm thinking about it and focus on Substack 100% (which I am) but what about if our clients are on Linkedin & IG as well?
Thank you Jari. Just starting out so this is very helpful. Much appreciated.

From the looks of it, you already have it niched down pretty well, Alex!
Thank you Jari. Well I feel that my fitness marketing is niche but my fitness coaching is not that niche...
This has to be one of the best ‘actionable’ articles I have read on Substack. Thank you Jari for sharing your knowledge and expertise.
Wonderful write-up full of golden nuggets.
Thank you! :)

If your clients are still on LinkedIn and IG, you might want to be present there as well! But you can make Substack your main focus.
Okay that's what I'm focusing on. Being there and then Substack is my main focus. Thank you Jari
