This is the most sensible post I've read in the last few months. Finally, someone has clearly explained the differentiators needed to break away from the uniformity of industrialized production. Thank you so much, Sinem.

As always, very good information.

Is there a point when going LIVE works?

I’m new to substack, growing but still small, so I’m nervous to try it - what if I do one and no one shows up? 🫣

Hi there! :)

I mean, honestly, if you go live and nobody shows up, you have tested the tool with no pressure, and you now know what the interface looks like and can be well-prepared for your second one.

I know exactly what it feels like when you're afraid that nobody will show up, but I really recommend a mindset switch so that you treat this as an advantage. Think of it this way: there's no pressure. You can just give it a go, and if you have a few people joining, it's great, and if not, you are just learning and getting familiar with the habit of showing up and using the tool. :)

Thank you for the encouragement! Sometimes our own fears hold us back.

Do LiVes only show up for subs? Or also followers? Or others?

Just came across this YouTube video this morning. I’m brand new to substack. (in my first week) … Tell me, what are your thoughts on my idea of just posting for a few weeks before I create my first newsletter artcile?

Tracy Friedlander's avatar

I think it's a great idea to just do notes for a bit before you post a longer article. That way you can test and see what notes are resonating, maybe they'd be a fit for going deeper in a longer post! :)

Thanks! That’s what I’m hoping for. Not sure if that translates to subs when u start? But I would rather slow play and build.

In my experience it has. I’ve gotten more from long form but only once I’d been on here a while and dialed them in. Which notes help you do!

That’s awesome. It’s part of the reason I decided with Substack over Beehiiv for now. The post aspect and the community aspect like right here in chatting in a post.

Really appreciate this Sinem - and it reflects more of what I have noticed.

I have tried to put my personality into my post more and one post in particular had a high response compared to my normal posts.

Appreciate the free advice....

I do understand what you’re saying. But when you look like something the cat dragged in, your voice isn’t pleasant and you asre stammering and have a thick accent, it is just too hard to do video or live. I always struggle with zoom, even in small groups without recording. It doesn’t feel safe, so it wouldn’t make me look trustworthy because of nerves. I do have a personal image in my profile

Does that mean I am doomed to the point of just stop now?
