But overthinking is my hobby😳 Maybe it IS getting in the way of hitting publish!

Haha time to ditch that hobby, Julie!

This is so true... When I started blogging, I used to overthink my writing. Took me a month to finish a new blog. Then I tossed the overthinking out of the window (well, most of the time anyway), now I can write 4 in one morning (if needed). I like what you write about it not being my job to predict how my content is received!

From one blogpost a month to four in one morning is massive progress! Love it.

(By the way, are you from The Netherlands? Your name sounds Dutch!)

Yes, I am from The Netherlands. Writing in english is my next challenge :)

Nice! I'm from Amsterdam.

Altijd goed om andere Nederlanders te zien op Substack :)

Haha, zeker. Geen idee eigenlijk, zijn het er veel?

Nailed it Jari. And then the ideas come to me in the middle of the night!! Solution - keep a notebook next to the bed.

Jari Roomer's avatar

Haha yeah that sounds like the best solution!

Overthinking just adds extra layers to your brain resulting in loss of your ability to think and act properly. So, it's better to use the 10 seconds rule, put overthinking at the back set and start focusing on what truly matters.

Great advice, Jari. Thank you! I'm a chronic overthinker and talk myself out of a dozen story ideas a week. I'm going to give this "just write" advice a try!

I don't overthink ideas, but still overthinking slows me down at the editing stage.

Deadlines and timers are the only antidote.

I'll have to start thinking on those lines. Thank you.
