“Am I ready to create a mini-course?” That’s one of the questions we’ve received the most over the past few weeks.
Honestly, most people who ask it are more ready than they think. They just don’t realize it yet.
They’re waiting for some moment where everything feels perfectly lined up, where they feel like a total expert, where they have a huge audience, where they have all the time in the world…
And that moment never really comes.
So in this episode, I want to give you five concrete signs that you’re already ready to create your first mini-course — even if it doesn’t feel that way right now.
Let’s get into it.
Sign #1: You’ve Figured Something Out That Others Are Still Struggling With
This doesn’t mean you need to be the world’s leading expert on something. You don’t need a degree, a certification, or decades of experience.
You just need to be further along than the person you’re trying to help.
So ask yourself, what have you figured out in the last year or two that used to feel confusing or overwhelming, but now feels totally normal to you?
What do your friends, family, or followers come to you for advice about?
What do people in your niche seem to be stuck on — that you’ve already worked through?
That gap between where you are and where your audience is?
That’s your mini-course.
For me, early on, it was productivity. I’d gone from being chronically unproductive and procrastinating on everything to building real, consistent habits.
That wasn’t some revolutionary insight, but it was something I’d genuinely figured out, and there were thousands of people who hadn’t yet.
That’s what became my first course, Procrastination Antidote — and it went on to make over $60,000.
You don’t need to know everything about your topic. You just need to know something useful that others don’t yet.
💰 Turn Your Ideas Into Income (In Record Time)
If you’re ready to finally take action and build your own income-generating mini-course, secure your spot inside Mini-Course Accelerator right away.
(The doors close this Wednesday, so the time to take action is now…)
Mini-Course Accelerator is built for:
New course creators who want to do this right the first time, without wasting months on trial and error.
Substack writers and creators who want to monetize their publication beyond paid subscribers. A mini-course gives your audience a compelling reason to invest — and it works whether you offer it as a paid subscriber benefit, a standalone product, or a launch to your full list.
Coaches and consultants who want to stop answering the same questions on repeat, scale their impact, and free up their time for deeper, higher-ticket work.
Authors, founders, and experts who want a scalable digital product that generates income around the clock.
If you have knowledge worth sharing, Mini-Course Accelerator shows you exactly how to package it, price it, and sell it.

Sign #2: People Keep Asking You The Same Questions
If you’ve been creating content for a while, whether that’s on Substack, YouTube, LinkedIn, or anywhere else, pay attention to the questions that come up again and again.
Because here’s what recurring questions actually mean: they mean there’s a recurring problem. And a recurring problem means demand. And demand means people will pay for a solution.
This is literally how we came up with the idea for our most recent mini-course, Substack Notes Simplified.
After working with hundreds of Substack creators, we kept getting the same questions over and over again — how do Notes work, how do I get more engagement on my Notes, how often should I publish, what makes a good Note?
We weren’t the ones who decided Notes was a great course topic. Our audience told us — through their questions.
So think about your own situation.
What do people keep asking you about in your DMs, in your comments, in your community?
What’s the question you’ve answered so many times you could answer it in your sleep?
If you’re answering the same question over and over again — stop answering it one person at a time, and turn it into a course.
That way, you answer it once, and it helps people forever.
Sign #3: You’re Already Creating Content On A Topic
If you’re a Substack creator, a YouTuber, a LinkedIn writer, a podcaster — and you’re consistently putting out content around a specific topic — you are more ready than you think.
The content you’ve already created is basically a rough draft of your course.
The frameworks you teach in your posts, the stories you share, the lessons you break down — all of that can be structured and packaged into a course.
You’re not starting from scratch. You’re organizing and deepening what you’ve already built.
Also, if you’ve been creating content around a topic, you’ve already been building authority on that topic in the eyes of your audience.
People already associate you with it. Which means when you launch a course on that same topic, it doesn’t feel random — it feels like a natural next step.
Think about it from the buyer’s perspective.
If they’ve been reading your newsletter about personal finance for six months, and you launch a mini-course on how to build an investment portfolio — that’s an easy yes.
They already trust you on this topic.
So if you’ve got a content library — even a small one — around a specific topic, that’s a really strong sign you’re ready to build something around it.
Sign #4: You Have An Engaged Audience (Even If It’s Small)
I really want to emphasize the word even here, because I think a lot of people discount how powerful a small audience can be.
There’s this myth that you need thousands of followers before you can launch a course.
That you need to wait until you hit 5,000 subscribers, or 10,000, or whatever arbitrary number people set for themselves.
And that’s just not true.
We’ve seen creators with fewer than 500 subscribers launch mini-courses and make real money — because they had the right audience.
A small, engaged, trusting audience will always outperform a large, disengaged one.
What matters more than size is the relationship you have with your audience.
Do they reply to your emails? Do they comment on your posts? Do they ask you questions? If so, that’s an audience that’s ready to buy from you.
And here’s the thing about launching a course — it actually accelerates your audience growth.
Because when you put out something paid, it signals that you’re serious. It gives you something valuable to talk about. It attracts buyers who are more invested and more committed than passive followers.
So don’t wait until your audience is bigger. Launch while it’s small, and let the launch help you grow it.
Sign #5: You’ve Thought About It For a While, But Keep Putting It Off Until ‘Later’
This is the most important sign, because if this is you, it means you already know you’re ready. You just haven’t acted yet.
And honestly? I get it. There are so many reasons people put it off…
“I’m not expert enough.”
“I don’t have time.”
“I don’t know how the tech works.”
“What if nobody buys it?”
“What if it’s not good enough?”
I’ve heard all of these — and I’ve felt most of them myself.
But here’s what I’ve learned after building and launching dozens of courses: none of those reasons are actually the real problem.
The real problem is that most people don’t have a clear, step-by-step system to follow.
So instead of moving forward, they stay stuck in the planning and overthinking phase.
They keep waiting to feel ready, not realizing that readiness comes from doing, not from thinking.
The creators who launch courses successfully aren’t the ones who felt the most ready.
They’re the ones who had a system to follow and took action while everyone else was still waiting.
And I’ll tell you from experience — there’s no better feeling than waking up to course sales you made while you were sleeping.
Knowing that something you built once is still working for you, still helping people, still generating income months or even years later.
If you’ve been thinking about this for a while — that’s not a sign you’re not ready. That’s a sign it’s time to stop thinking and start building.
